About

Disqus, pronounced discuss, is a service for blog comments. Disqus enables bloggers to make the conversations on their blogs more interactive and manageable. Our distributed comment system connects readers across blog communities, while empowering publishers in promoting their content.

This blog is the place for us to write about new updates, development milestones, and overall misadventures in startup-land. If you’d like to shoot us an email, you can reach all of us at team [at] disqus [dot] com.

  • awsome!
where do I exactly, submit bug reports or future suggestions?
  • OK---so this finally makes a little more sense. I have been trying to figure out what exactly DISQUS was all about. I think I have a better idea now, although I'm still not 100%.
  • Seems like a good widget to add to my blog

My picture doesn't upload from my machine properly. It ends up as the dark square that you see beside my name 'atrimus." Can you tell me how to get the picture from the large black square it shows up in over to where it should be as my avatar with my name.
  • How can I search for people on Disqus? For instance, if I want to find people here who post about comic books, how do I do that?
  • balaji
    Thanks for your information guys.
  • Hello all,
My problem is: I installed disqs following indications but nothing is on my site!
Just on sentence on top of my site "view all comments" but no place to add a comment !
    What is the problem?
  • quick question - if I install your plugin, will it migrate all the exiting comments to Disqus?
  • I integrated into my blogger blog as instructed, however, I don't see it working as intended.

  • There is a current issue with Blogger that we are working on fixing.
  • Ah! OK. If you can, send me an email when it's good to go.

    software looks great
  • Nice work on the disqus application guys. I'd love to hear more about the backend stuff that makes Disqus tick (DBs, frameworks, technical stuff...) :-)

Good luck and hope the service keeps growing!
  • Thanks. We'll write about this one day. :)

Why does this service apply only to blogs? Why can this not be published on any web page deserving a disqusion? Seems it could be more scalable that way...

  • Found Disqus via Gravatar RSS feed ;-)
    Nice idea!
  • I'm really confused. When you say: "you’ll be able to track your comments and replies, follow friends, and maintain a reputation and identity across sites"; where does this take place? Is there a site where all these comments are aggregated? Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but how does it work?
  • Check my profile: http://disqus.com/people/danielha

If you're a blogger, you'll have a dashboard on Disqus to manage the discussions.
  • another feedback about usability:
    - i'd like to have an option, when in a blog that is displaying a comment made by me, to "delete" it. After verifying that i am the one that made the comment, i should be able not only to "edit", but also to delete it.
  • hi, sorry for posting a comment that might be unrelated to this post's subject, but i could not find a better way for my question.

i made a comment on a blog (http://disqus.com/people/1037f0b2adeb9ee375230c...), and i already have an account on disqus. BUT, when i click on "claim", i am logged in but nothing else happens, i.e., my comment is not claimed. You can see the live comment on a blog here: http://alexdeve.typepad.com/alex/2008/04/green-...

how do i effectively claim my comment???

    thanks in advance

Excuse me for the newbie question. I am trying to get started with Disqus. It says that I need to put that zip file into my Wordpress plugins directory. But I just have a blog on Wordpress that I established on the web. I never downloaded any software from Wordpress; I just use it entirely on the web, as a service. What should I do? Thank you very much.
  • Hi, Wordpress.com's hosted blog service does not currently support plugins
such as Disqus. Our plugin is meant for a self-hosted Wordpress
    installation.
  • dlweinreb
Does "a self-hosted Wordpress implementation" mean that I'd have
to be running software from Wordpress as an Internet server on
my own machine? (Sorry, I don't quite understand.) Disqus looks
great and I'd like to try it, but I guess I don't understand how all
    the pieces fit together.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Dan -

Self hosted WordPerss means you are not using Wordpress.com to host your
    blog.
  • dlweinreb
Yes, I do understand that what I'm doing now doesn't work. What I'd like to understand is what DOES work. If I wanted to use Disqus, what would I need to do?

    Thanks.

    -- Dan
  • You can use WordPress.org or any other blogging platform.

Aha, it means that I have to have my own web server and
run my own blogging site. Maybe someday, but right now
I'm just interested in writing a blog. So I can't use Disqus.
    Too bad.
  • KiwiKev
not your own web server if u dont want one, just use a hosting company at a few dollars a month, they will know all about wordpress.org and the install software, good luck.
  • let's test!

  • Hey, which tools do you guys use to implement Disqus? In any case, nice work.

One small complaint: the new feature where profiles pop-up when you mouse-over a commentor's picture in a thread is a poor UI choice. In general, stuff that pops-up when you merely mouse-over it is a mistake, and an increasingly common one on the web these days.
  • Thanks! We're still playing around with the new profiles and I appreciate the feedback.
